In nummular eczema the term nummular actually refers to a Latin word that implies a small sized coin.

Nummular eczema symptoms can begin with what looks like a group of tiny red spots and blister-like lesions which then become enlarged and can merge to form a reddened, itchy and most notable a coin-shaped patchy area that can range in size from 2 to 10 centimeters.

The skin turns scaly and becomes red as well as inflamed and the diagnosis of this condition is commonly made through the physical appearance of patches on the skin. It is also based on family and personal history.

Therefore, nummular eczema is a type of eczema in which the signs are those of a small sized coin. The formation of the patches on the skin that can lead to a lot of irritation can be related to disorders caused by allergies. Typically, nummular eczema results in patches developing on the back and lower legs as well as the arms and buttocks. These patches become crusty as well as can itch a great deal.

Also, stress can worsen an existing nummular eczema condition though the precise cause for this disease has yet to be found and it is quite uncommon and a disease that affect elderly males the most.
